FREE ADA Door Compliance Checker For Commercial Buildings & Storefronts

Enter your door dimensions below to verify ADA door compliance for front-approach commercial entrances. This FREE tool checks standard clearance rules under federal accessibility guidelines to help you plan compliant entries.

This covers the front approach configuration — the most common setup for a storefront main entry, where someone approaches the door head-on rather than from an angled hallway. If your entry has a side or hinge-side approach instead, the required clearances are different; the disclaimer below points you to the full ADA table for that case.

01
Which side are you checking?
Pull side You pull the door open toward you
Push side You push the door open away from you

Closing speed

Door closers must take 5 seconds minimum to move the door from 90° to 12° from the latch — sweep it, don't let it slam.

ADA §404.2.8

Smooth bottom surface

The bottom 10" of the door on the push side must be smooth, with no raised or recessed panels that could catch a wheelchair footrest.

ADA §404.2.10

This tool covers the front approach configuration under 2010 ADA Standards §404.2.3–404.2.9 and is an educational starting point, not a compliance determination. Hinge-side and latch-side approaches have different required clearances (Table 404.2.4.1) and aren't calculated here. California enforces its own accessibility standards (CBC Chapter 11B / Title 24), which are generally at least as strict as the ADA and add requirements the federal standard doesn't cover — always verify against the California code and consult a Certified Access Specialist (CASp) or licensed architect before finalizing a design. This tool is not legal advice.
