How to install a sliding glass door?

Installing a sliding glass door is an advanced construction task that requires excellent carpentry skills due to the size and weight of the structural components. The process begins by verifying that the rough structural framing opening is completely square, level, plumb, and free from any underlying water damage or wood rot. Next, a high-quality flexible flashing membrane is installed across the bottom sub-sill, followed by the application of three thick, continuous beads of heavy-duty exterior silicone sealant to prevent water from seeping under the track. The heavy door frame is then carefully tilted into the opening from the outside. Installers use shims behind the screw zones to adjust the frame until it is perfectly plumb and level, then drive long structural screws through the side jambs into the wall studs.
