How to install glass shower door?

on June 4, 2026

Glass shower door installation requires precise measurement, a level and plumb substrate, and careful sealing to prevent water intrusion. The process begins with verifying that the walls are plumb and the threshold or curb is level — even small deviations will cause a frameless door to swing open or closed on its own and will create gaps in the seal. For frameless doors, wall-mounted hinges or a wall channel are anchored directly to studs or into the tile substrate using waterproof anchors. The glass panel — typically 3/8 or 1/2 inch tempered safety glass — is hung on the hinges or set into the wall channel and adjusted until it hangs plumb. Hinges are fine-tuned so the door closes flush and latches cleanly. The handle, towel bar, and latch hardware are installed through pre-drilled holes in the glass. Finally, 100% silicone sealant is applied along all edges where the glass meets the wall and threshold to prevent water from escaping the enclosure. The silicone must cure fully — usually 24 to 48 hours — before the shower is used.
